Introduction to London Flotilla

The London Flotilla is a registered naval charity concerned with education and training and general promotion of the Royal Navy and its reserves, with its history in the 1930's pre-war days. Its primary objective is to support the RNR (London Division) and the RYA training programme it offers aims to help achieve this, along with a winter Lecture programme on naval and maritime history, current affairs and future developments and subject of general maritime interest.

The Flotilla is an RYA Recognised Teaching Establishment for the provision of shorebased course instruction and provides a winter RYA Lecture programme based on evening classes for the Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster Theory course. The RYA Day Skipper theory course may also be made available subject to availability of training resource. Future provision of other RYA courses, including Radar, Medical and First Aid skills and courses in Radio Communications and VHF is under review - stay tuned!!

There is also offered from time to time a programme of ship visits to visiting vessels from around the world, as well as visits to naval and maritime establishments of interest. There is also a practical Sea Training Programme available to RNR Officer members of the Flotilla that enables them to gain first hand sea-going experience aboard vessels of various types, as well as port liaison for those with particular interests in commercial and Naval operations.

A full Social Programme includes a Trafalgar Sunday Service held at one of a number of major venues all with maritime links. There is also an annual Reception in the spring and a mid-summer Yacht Meet for member boat owners when other yacht clubs and sailing organisations are sometimes invited to join us

The Flotilla Bulletin, published three times a year, keeps members abreast of Flotilla events and activities, as well as articles on topics of interest and news from other maritime quarters.
